Note: All of the marketing pieces shown here are available in all three creative concepts. This page will be updated as new materials are completed.

Bill Inserts

Bill inserts are a low cost means of reinforcing the marketing message and boosting awareness of your payment service, how it works and when it starts. Include the URL with steps to participate, app name and IVR number.

  • Customers responding to bill inserts are generally those who already hold a favorable image of your utility. They consider bill inserts and other utility-issued communications credible and regard them as their main sources of information about programs and other offerings.

Bill and Bill Envelope Messages

Messages on bills and on bill envelopes are a low-cost way to announce your payment service and will support other promotional efforts.

  • Bill messages are a viable channel for converting customers who still pay their utility bill by mail. Messaging should include a URL for more information and steps to participate.
  • Envelope messages can be used to announce that your payment service is now available, and more information is contained inside. Envelope messages also increase the open rate for direct mail that is not a bill.

Direct Mail Campaigns

Direct mail campaigns are more costly than bill inserts or bill/envelope messages; however, response rates are usually higher for this channel.

  • Switching the design and message of the mailers keeps them fresh and appealing to customer segments while still creating recall through a consistent theme.
  • Envelope messages are used to announce that your payment service is available, and more information is contained inside. Envelope messages increase the open rate for direct mail.
  • The message delivered through direct mail should be reinforced through other channels (such as low-cost bill inserts and bill messages) to provide lift to the response rate.

Poster Display

  • Displaying a poster in a lobby or through a drive-through window is a high visibility way to reinforce your payment service and educate about the benefits it provides.
  • If customers can access the display (for example, in a lobby) the display should include a pocket with handouts that contain a URL and information about how to register/participate. Customers can take the handouts home and register at their convenience.
  • The poster should mirror the art and messaging themes used in other payment service promotions for continuity.

Website

  • From the month before go-live onward, your payment service should have a consistent presence on your website to build recognition among customers.
  • The Customer Portal page to pay a bill should appear in the navigation, as a banner on the Home Page and on the payment landing page. You may include a dedicated web page during the launch period. Web promotions should include a clear call-to-action with a link that makes it easy for customers to register and participate.

Outdoor Signage

  • Outdoor signage along the utility driveway, at the customer parking area and in the drive through area is a great way to let customers know that your payment service is available. Signage can also emphasize how the payment service is secure and saves time for customers.
